Wooden Drop Spindle - Top Whorl
This classy Top Whorl Drop Spindle for hand spinning fibre is made of Indian Rose Wood with an exquisite pattern and is suitable for spinning a medium to thick yarn.
A spindle is the place to begin when learning how to spin. It is a must have for portable spinning, and with a small amount of practice, the twisting of the fibers can create a beautiful, hand spun yarn .
The whorl (which is the round weight which helps to make the spindle spin) sits near the bottom of the shaft and the spun yarn wound around the shaft. The spindle is set up for top whorl spinning, but can be used for bottom whorl by making a small hole screwing the hook into the other end.
Well balanced. Strong spring wire hook bent to help keep your yarn from arcing out of the hook. Long shaft helps to balance the spindle and allow for "down the knee" propulsion for high speed spinning.
The spindle is 26 cm (10") long, and the whorl has a diameter of 8cm (3" Approx.) whorl, and the combined weight is 70 grams approximately.
